Training outside the dojang/// Additional Training . Outside the dojang
Class time is used to learn new techniques and learn how to improve existing skills as well as getting a bit of a sweat going! However, beyond the dojang is the opportunity to improve these learned techniques for the next class so that you can advance further, faster. It is essential to carry the training beyond the area of the mats in the dojang for many reasons:
+ Maintaining and improving fitness
+ Maintaining and improving speed
+ Maintaining and improving agility
+ Strengthening your limbs for certain techniques
+ Most certainly for competition - whether this is in Poomsae or Kyorugi
Why not try attending a few additional classes:
+ Circuit training
+ Spinning (intense indoor cycling)
Or in your own area:
+ Set up your own sprint regime (plyometrics)
+ Shadow boxing
+ Weight training
+ Skipping
An even better solution would be to get a few of your fellow classmates/instructors together for a training session once a week. This way you can motivate and learn from each other.
Master Culbert occassionally runs training sessions on a weekend in the morning. If you'd like to know more:
